General Information on the School of Foreign Languages / Department of Foreign Languages for the 2025–2026 Academic Year
English Preparatory Program
The Department administers both Compulsory and Optional English Preparatory Programs at our University.

For students enrolled in departments with a compulsory English Preparatory Program, a two-stage Foreign Language Proficiency Examination (FLPE) is conducted on the date specified in the 2025–2026 Academic Calendar of Kütahya Dumlupınar University School of Foreign Languages. Successful candidates are exempted from the compulsory program and may commence their first-year studies directly.

Students who do not attend or fail the examination are required to pursue studies in the Compulsory English Preparatory Program during the 2025–2026 academic year.

In accordance with the provisions of the Exemption Directive for Foreign Language Preparatory Classes and Compulsory Foreign Language Courses, students who meet the necessary conditions may be exempted from the first stage of the FLPE or from the Compulsory English Preparatory Program.

Optional English Preparatory Program
Students enrolled in academic units without a compulsory English Preparatory Program, who apply to study in the Optional English Preparatory Program in the 2025–2026 academic year, may be placed in the program within the quota limits, in accordance with the Student Placement Directive for the Optional Preparatory Program of Kütahya Dumlupınar University.

General Information on English Preparatory Education

Prior to the commencement of classes, as indicated in the Academic Calendar, all students admitted to the 2025–2026 English Preparatory Program must take the Foreign Language Placement Examination (FLPE) to begin instruction at the appropriate level.

Attendance in the Placement Examination is compulsory. Students who fail to attend cannot be assigned to a class or level.

Students absent from the Placement Examination are recorded in the University’s Student Information System (OBS) as “Preparatory – Non-attending / Passive Student.” They are considered unsuccessful for each quarter of non-attendance and cannot benefit from student rights.

The duration of the English Preparatory Program is one academic year, consisting of four quarters. At the end of each quarter, Level Completion Examinations are administered, determining whether students progress to the next level or repeat the current one.

Students must maintain at least 80% attendance per quarter. Those failing to meet this requirement are not permitted to sit for the Level Completion Examination.

Students enrolled in the 2025–2026 English Preparatory Program may also take one of the second foreign languages offered by the School as an elective course.
Fees

Students admitted to either the Compulsory or Optional English Preparatory Program must take the Placement Examination before classes begin. Based on the results, their level, section, course hours, required textbooks, and related information are determined.

Students are required to pay tuition fees, if applicable, within the designated periods for the Fall and Spring semesters.

Courses of the English Preparatory Program are conducted in the School of Foreign Languages building located on the Evliya Çelebi Campus of our University.

For students beginning their first-year studies in the 2025–2026 academic year, a Foreign Language I–II Exemption Examination is held on the date specified in the Academic Calendar of the School of Foreign Languages. Successful candidates are exempted from these courses.

Announcements regarding the exemption examination (date, venue, application procedures, etc.) are published on ydyo.dpu.edu.tr.

Foreign Language I, Foreign Language II, and Professional Foreign Language courses are conducted in the buildings and classrooms designated by the respective academic units.
