Translation and Interpretation (English) Department  was opened in accordance with the Article7/d-2 of the Law  numbered 2547-regulated by law no 2880 – and Article3 of the Law numbered 2809 in higher education executive council's meeting on June 24th, 2015.

Considering that our country is the 17th largest economy in the world and is a candidate country in the EU integration process, the Department of Translation and Interpretation is an in demand department, whose professional field never narrows, and has the potential to constantly get work depending on the self-improvement of the individual. Translation and translation studies are the needs of all those who work in the cultural and social field, from statesmen and diplomats representing the interests of the country to foreign trade representatives, business people to athletes. As a profession, translation is a field of occupation in itself that requires specialization and professionalism according to the application areas that provide written and oral communication between two different languages and cultures at every stage of international relations.

The employment options of our students, whom we have trained under the guidance of our strong academic staff, have a wide range in accordance with their educational outputs. Our students can get employed in the areas such as freelance or permanent translator, secretary responsible for international relations in companies, patent and brand translator, executive assistant and consular staff after graduation. In addition, the broad cultural and scientific infrastructure of the education accelerates our graduates to become directors and managers such as editor, project manager, translation bureau operator, translation department manager in their fields in a short time. It is also considered that a part of our alumni have the potential to be successful in the graduate studies in the fields of economics, business, communications, international relations, sociology, literature and translation and interpretation studies both in Turkey and abroad. Employment areas of our graduates are as follows: verbal and written translation offices; local, national and international written, visual and audio media institutions; all ministries, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade; public institutions and organizations such as State Planning Organization, National Intelligence Agency, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey and Turkish Standardization Institute; banks' foreign exchange departments; publishing houses; editorships; universities and advanced technology institutes; various international organizations; international non-governmental organizations; book translators; foreign mission chiefs; customs clearance and import, export companies.

In addition, students who graduate from the Department of Translation and Interpretation can work as research assistants in relevant departments of universities as well as academic career in Translation Studies, Language and Literature, and Culture and Literature departments, and can work as foreign language Instructors.

The medium of instruction of the programme is English. All courses in the program are semester courses. Starting from the first semester, students choose one of the German, French or Russian second foreign language courses as a compulsory elective and continue their second foreign language course in all other semesters. Students who complete the 3rd year education and are about to be sophomore are required to do an internship in the summer term. The internship is worth 3 ECTS in the students' transcripts. At the end of the sixth semester, the students do an internship in the summer term and submit their report at the beginning of the seventh semester. It is compulsory to get at least 240 ECTS in total for each student to graduate. In the first and second years of education, the lessons are mostly aimed at improving the language skills of students and making them equipped for translation, and in the third and fourth years, courses on specialization in translation and translation are offered.

To be able to graduate from the program, students must successfully complete all available courses (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and have a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
